Frank E. Samuel was the husband of Viola Wistuba Samuel and the father of Robert Frank Samuel. He appears as Frank Jr. in the older Samuel household and as Frank E. with Viola in the 1950 Sayreville census. This profile concerns the younger Frank; his father, Frank Samul / Samuel, has a separate profile. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Family connections
Parents: Frank Samul / Samuel and Sophie / Teofila Samuel. The 1940 census lists Frank Jr. as their son. His obituary transcription names Loretta as a sister, and Loretta’s published obituary names her parents as Frank and Sophie Syroweic Samuel. Together these sources strongly support the connection; the younger Frank’s birth certificate has not yet been inspected. [1] [3] [5]
Wife and son: Viola Wistuba Samuel and Robert Frank Samuel. The 1950 census records Frank and Viola together, with Robert on the household’s continuation sheet. Robert’s obituary supplies Viola’s maiden surname. Explore Viola’s parents in the Wistuba family branch. [2] [4]
Life in the records
December 1917 · A child in his father’s petition. The elder Frank’s petition to become a U.S. citizen lists a son Frank born December 30, 1916. His father made this statement close to the reported birth, but later records disagree with the birth year. [6]
1940 · In the Samuel household. Frank Jr. is recorded as a son in the Sayreville household of Frank and Sophie. [1]
October 1940 · Marriage to Viola. The Daily Home News reported that Viola Marie Wistuba, daughter of Mrs. Mary Wistuba of 12 Haag Street, married Frank E. Samuels Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Samuels of 575 Main Street, at St. Stanislaus Church on Saturday. October 12, 1940 is inferred from the report’s Monday, October 14 publication date. The newspaper prints his surname as Samuels. It also reports that the groom graduated from South River High School and was employed at E. I. du Pont in Parlin. [11]
1950 · A household with Viola. Frank E. and Viola M. are recorded in Sayreville on April 17, with son Robert F. on the next census sheet. Frank’s recorded age is 32. [2]
August 23, 2000 · Death reported. A transcribed obituary reports Frank’s death on this date and gives his age as 82. The original newspaper notice has not been inspected. [3]

Dates and open questions
Birth date. A Middlesex County index lists Frank Sanul on December 30, 1916, agreeing with the petition. The entry gives no parents or specific town, so it remains a strong candidate until the certificate is checked. Frank would have been 33 in April 1950 and 83 in August 2000 if that birthday is correct; the recorded ages of 32 and 82 conflict with it. No exact birthday is treated as settled here. [2] [3] [6] [7]
Other date reports. A family-held handwritten research note gives January 1, 1917. A much later probate database reports January 1, 1918. Neither resolves the disagreement: the note’s underlying source is unknown, and the probate entry is not a birth record. [8] [9]
Marriage-index name. A 1940 index pairs Frank Samuel Jr. with Ladislana Wistuba. The original newspaper report independently documents the wedding of Frank E. Samuels Jr. and Viola Marie Wistuba, with October 12, 1940 inferred from its publication date. It does not explain Ladislana or prove that the index entry refers to Viola; the marriage certificate or another linking record is still needed for that identification. [10] [11]
